What is external linking and why is it needed?

External linking is when a page of one site links to a page of another resource. Its benefit is to increase authority. If a page links to other sites, search engines consider it reliable. When another site links to a certain page, robots recognize it as authoritative. Authoritative pages are more likely to appear at the top of search results. What is external linking and why is it needed?

As a rule, natural links are used for external interlinking. For example, information articles refer to expert opinions, and reviews of household country email list appliances refer to products from an online store. Such links are published manually.

How to do internal linking

To create high-quality interlinking of internal pages, it is advisable to study detailed materials on link building. We will tell you about the main stages:

  1. Find target pages, i.e. those that others will link to. These can be pages with good conversion or the most visited by users, or, on the contrary, less popular ones that need to be promoted.
  2. Choose anchors. You need to find keywords that can be entered into the anchor of the link. If you are doing SEO, then you most likely already have a list of key phrases.
  3. Find pages where you can place links to the pages you are promoting. It is important that such pages correspond to the topic of the content that the reader is led to. For example, on a page about types of sausage, you can place a link “What kind of sausage to use for pizza.”
  4. Publish links. Most often, they are placed manually in the finished content. But no one forbids planning the publication in the created text materials.
  5. Checking interlinking. Once you have lead generation through social completed internal interlinking, make sure it works and regularly evaluate its impact on website promotion. Use special services for this, for example, Screaming Frog. It analyzes the parameters of internal URLs, identifies broken links and duplicates.

Tips for interlinking

Here are some tips:

  • publish links that are useful for readers, as the mobile list likelihood of clicking on them is higher;
  • do not place multiple links on one page (optimally 1-2 links per 1000-1500 characters of text);
  • regularly monitor the site for broken links and redirects, and fix any problems that are identified;
  • For ease of navigation, create “breadcrumbs” on the site.

Cross-linking a website makes it convenient and improves its ranking. When publishing links, consider the subject of the content and regularly check their work.
